Supersize the Heroes but don't count the calories

Imagine a sculptor who spends all night pondering and wandering through time and space to craft a lifeless existence of his presence, digging deep into his mind's dark paths and hallways, looking for means of self expression, feeling hollow and empty inside and laying all hope on a faceless slab cut off from mountains far off from his creative realm.

The sculptor slaves days and night, with hesitant hands as he pushes the anvil through the persistent rock to weave a more sturdy understanding of his vision, sometimes not looking so much like he had hoped for, thus shaking him a bit and weakens his grip on the heavy hammer with which he pushes his anvil into slab.

Back in the times of world war two, and even a bit earlier the us media was focused on making this whole uncertainty clearer by projecting images of grandeur to boost people's confidence, not that there was a meeting in which such a cause was openly discussed but the market need and conditions drove the writers and artists into creating the perfect hero image.

There are usually several solutions to one's headache, live it out and suffer a bit, take a pill and suppress the pain, or simply believe nothing is wrong and that nothing can really harm me, more or less, it is our ignorance of our ignorance which terrifies us, and lack of confidence in our abilities. Superman amongst other superheroes were saviors who would help us overcome our lack of trust and faith in our selves, nonetheless as times advanced and no major world wars re-occurred, sufficient time was provided for several advancement in health meadicine and science, man's ego began to florish as he surrounded himslef with the many pieces of his creation, his confidence was re-established, of not needing anyone or anything to save him.

Movies began emphasizing how a stupid, low income worker, with all the world's troubles can eventually save the world. The old superheroes were replaced by adam sandler and many others who offered confidence to people through films which sent out messages such as "no matter how bad it is, you can make it happen", "even the stupidest, weakest and most disabled can make a difference", regardless of the interesting presence of the american anthem and the american flag as the header to all such messages, they seemed to aim at recreating the personalities of people into ones which are more suited for the 20th century capitalist transformation.

Superheroes have returned on the movie screen in the past decade making their transition from the comic book, which offered more accessibility for the public, but in a new form, one people can relate to and pay money at the ticket booth to see. The human side of superheroes, especially those with more human qualities than unnatural ones, such as batman, even spiderman was portrayed from the light of human suffering, thus, in my opinion switching directions towards self sufficiency, emphasis on the non-existence of the helping hand, and all the other characteristics previous superheroes were meant to offer.

and just as the sculptor sculpts his immaculate portrait of his inner self in his work, superheroes were created, just to be destroyed and reformulated by the same or another sculptor to fit the times and people's trust, hopes, dreams and fears, or as bob dylan said "coz the times they are changing"
